Blaeu-Globus

On behalf of the „Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden” arised a 3D animation about one of the most outstanding globes from 17^th century. Compared to standards at that time Willem Janszoon Blaeu fabricated most accurate maps and documented them on this globe. For the „Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon” the round the world sailing tour of Ferdinand Magellan was illustrated. The remarkable accurateness of the globe – from todays point of view – is demonstrated in the animation and shows how much knowledge about the world existed back then.
